He identifies it and intends to address it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Christian accountability means that harmful behavior should not simply be overlooked.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accountability should involve <strong>truth, appropriate confrontation, humility, and a desire for restoration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We should also be willing to receive correction when our own behavior is wrong.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Imitate what is good<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In verse 11, John tells Gaius, <strong>\u201cDo not imitate what is evil, but what is good.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lesson is not merely \u201cdon&#8217;t be like Diotrephes.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Christians are called to actively practice <strong>humility, hospitality, truthfulness, love, service, and integrity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our goal is ultimately to imitate <strong>Christlike character<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Big Picture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3 John 9\u201312 contrasts two approaches to Christian relationships:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Diotrephes:<\/strong> pride \u2192 control \u2192 harmful speech \u2192 rejection \u2192 division<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Christian conduct:<\/strong> humility \u2192 truth \u2192 appropriate conversation \u2192 accountability \u2192 restoration and good works<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Practical takeaway<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before speaking or acting in a conflict, ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cIs it true? Is it necessary? Is it appropriate? Am I addressing the right person? Teaching point: The transition from Revelation 3 to Revelation 4 is significant: the messages to the churches end, and John is suddenly taken into heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. <strong>The Church Is No Longer Mentioned on Earth<\/strong> One of LaHaye&#8217;s major arguments is the distinction between Revelation 1\u20133 and what follows. Chapters 1\u20133 focus heavily on the churches. Beginning in Revelation 4, the scene shifts to heaven. The Tribulation judgments then begin unfolding. LaHaye sees this as supporting a pretribulation Rapture. Important teaching point: This is an interpretation of the prophetic sequence, rather than Revelation 4:1 explicitly saying, \u201cThe church has been raptured.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. <strong>The Rapture Is Sudden The phrase<\/strong>: \u201cImmediately I was in the spirit\u201d \u2014 Revelation 4:2 describes John&#8217;s sudden transition into the heavenly scene. LaHaye connects this with the biblical teaching that believers will be caught up to meet Christ. Supporting Scripture 1 Thessalonians 4:16\u201317 \u201cThe dead in Christ shall rise first\u2026\u201d \u201cThen we which are alive and remain shall be caught up\u2026\u201d This is one of the clearest passages concerning the Rapture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4. The Rapture Is Before the Tribulation This is the central argument of Chapter 10. LaHaye places the Rapture before the seven-year Tribulation period. His basic prophetic sequence is: Church Age \u2192 Rapture \u2192 Tribulation \u2192 Second Coming \u2192 Millennium Revelation 4 begins the heavenly scene, while the judgments associated with the Tribulation unfold afterward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5. <strong>The Church Is Promised Deliverance From Coming Judgment A key supporting Scripture is:<\/strong> 1 Thessalonians 1:10 Paul says believers are waiting for Jesus: \u201cwho delivers us from the wrath to come.\u201d LaHaye connects this with the belief that Christians will not experience the divine judgment associated with the Tribulation. Another important passage is: Revelation 3:10 Jesus tells the church at Philadelphia: \u201cI also will keep thee from the hour of temptation\u2026\u201d LaHaye views this as significant evidence for the church being removed before the Tribulation. 6<strong>. The Rapture<\/strong> Is Different From the Second Coming This is an important distinction for your students. The Rapture: Christ comes for His church. Believers are caught up. It is associated with meeting Christ in the air. It occurs before the Tribulation according to LaHaye&#8217;s interpretation. The Second Coming: Christ comes with His saints. Christ visibly returns to earth. It occurs after the Tribulation. It leads into His kingdom.
